Feeling Humble Today?

“Those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Matthew 23:12)

Humility is probably not the first thing you set your mind on when you wake up every morning.  As the sun is peeking through the windows and the birds are welcoming another day of opportunity, you think to yourself “Man… it would be really great to be humble today!”  At least that’s not how it is for me.  Humility is more of a state of being than it is a state of doing.  You either are or you are not, there’s no point in “acting” humble.  Humility is the recognition of your position in relation to God and His might.  Almost every leader in the Bible struggled with the concept of humility, from the patriarchs to the apostle Paul.  In fact, read what Moses wrote about HIMSELF:

“Now, Moses was more humble than any other person on earth.” (Numbers 12:3)

How’s that for struggling with the concept of humility?

When Jesus came to earth he openly criticized and rebuked many of the Pastors and Teachers of his day.  He hated the way they exalted themselves with esteemed titles and empty deeds.  He commanded that his followers avoid this kind of behavior and seek to humble themselves.  Jesus was the exact opposite; he came to earth in humility and laid down his life.

“Those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Matthew 23:12)
