Generational Mindsets

img_2386The world is evolving and change is inevitable. Technology is developing and changing as the future unfolds quickly. Another thing that is changing quickly: My generation.

It seems like many adults just dismiss my generation as immature, unreliable, and incapable. Although this may be true in certain aspects of our lives or for certain individuals, it was also true of every previous generation. The truth is: there is a majority of us who truly should not be underestimated.

Our mindsets are different. Mindsets will be different between any people group, but generational mindsets tend to be more evident. My generation may call the elderly “old fashioned” just because they grew up in a different time, but we will be called old fashioned in the future.

I think it’s important to remember that we are not just teens, but we are the future leaders of the world. So, whenever a person makes a negative statement about us, they are making a negative statement about our future and the change we will strive for. We also want to make the world a better place. Although there is bad in every generation, there is also good. There are those who have the vision of a better future.

If you are one of those people who think that “Generation Z” is “bad,” or not as good as yours, then maybe you should take a moment to look at the way your own generation was treated. Wherever you find fault in ours, you may be surprised to find the same downfalls in your own.

Problems tend to be similar across generations. Though we may handle them differently, because of the fact that we live in a different time, we are more alike than we are different.

So, to all of those who call my generation uneducated and too young to make change, maybe examining our similarities will cause you to rethink that mindset.

One response to “Generational Mindsets”

  1. The thing I find most hilarious about my gen (Z) on up complaining about yours is 1) who raised you? And 2) who educated you? So wouldn’t that be our fault? Lol. Anyway, I don’t feel this way at all. I have 3 kids around your age and you guys rule. Well done, mini-comrade.
